More than just parties, Bailes Funk are a necessity, a cultural right for the Afro-Brazilian youth. Despite of repression, 300 to 500 Bailes a week take place in the state of Rio, where between 500 and 5,000 funkeiros gather together.
Vincent Rosenblatt documents constantly the evolution of the Baile Funk scene since 2005..
“…The transition from afternoon to evening on Sundays is different from other days at Arpoador. The passage of time seems suspended. There’s a special lingering on the rocks, a not-wanting-to-go-home kind of pause. This Sunday kind of feeling seems to bring out the melancholy and mortality inherent in all personal photography.”

Light idols, lasers, fireworks, and DJs worshiped like international popstars. The machines they drive make tens of thousands of young Amazonians from the Brazilian state of Pará dance.
